Can someone come and watch?

Spectators are very welcome to come and watch as long as they wear the relevant safety equipment provided and follow the instructor’s advice on where it is safe to stand.

Directions to Braces Shooting Range

We are located at Braces of Bristol Shooting Ground. The full address is Braces Shooting Range, Maes Knoll Farm, Norton Lane, BS394EZ.

Assuming you are coming out of Bristol on the A37 Wells Road. Drive along Norton Lane and you will pass Norton Court on your left-hand side. Please do not drive into Norton Court.

Braces Shooting Range is approximately 100 metres further on the right and is marked by two small signs, one of which has JB Equestrian Services and the other, ‘Braces’ and 2 Pheasants on it.

Drive straight through the farmyard, past the horse boxes, hay bales, etc and continue until the end of the track.

Do I need to book or can I turn up and shoot?

Yes, you do need to book. We run a diary system and instructors are booked out by the hour. Weekends are particularly busy, and, we suggest booking 2-3 weeks in advance. We often have slots available at shorter notice during the week.

Is the lesson cancelled if it rains?

No! Clay pigeon shooting is an outdoor sport, and unless conditions outside are deemed to be dangerous than we carry on!

What about recoil and does it hurt?

We provide special low recoil cartridges and small bore guns if required, and ensure the experience is fun for all. Instructors are here to choose the appropriate calibre shotgun for you and to show you how to place a shotgun correctly in your shoulder. The combination of these elements ensures that firing any shotgun should not hurt.

What age can you start to clay pigeon shoot?

There is no legal age limit. Usually from the age of 10 children are strong enough to hold a shotgun and able to understand the important safety aspects necessary in order to enjoy the sport. We would always suggest bringing your child along for an individual lesson with one of our instructors, to see if they are keen to learn.
